Lync 2013 not starting on Windows 2012 – Lync Tips and Tricks – Site Home – TechNet Blogs:

So had an issue with the Lync 2013 Front-End service not starting on Windows 2012.  

Turns out if you run an Enterprise CA you need to move the Root Cert from the Trusted Root Certifications Authority to the Intermediate one.

Tad annoying as it auto goes in to the Root one by default.. grrr.
